phytopharmaceuticals, and NIPER Mohali in Punjab for anti-bacterial and anti-viral drug discovery. These projects under the PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme aim to strengthen India’s capability in crucial healthcare manufacturing.
Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated five PLI projects for advanced medical devices and essential bulk drugs at locations in Gujarat, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh. These projects will focus on manufacturing high-end medical equipment, such as implants and critical care devices, advancing India’s “Make in India” healthcare vision and expanding domestic production.
During his address, the Prime Minister noted that a nation’s development is closely linked to the health of its people. He outlined the five pillars of India’s health policy—preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, affordable treatment, accessible healthcare in smaller towns, and expanding technology’s role in health services. The launch of PLI projects for medical devices and bulk drugs will enable local manufacturing of advanced stents, implants, and other essential medical supplies.
Moreover, PM Modi inaugurated India’s largest Jan Aushadhi Kendra at AIIMS New Delhi, dedicated to providing affordable and quality medicines. Spanning 1,724 square feet, the Kendra will offer over 2,000 generic medicines and 300 surgical items at prices 50-90% lower than branded options. With more than 14,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across India, these outlets are helping citizens save an estimated ₹30,000 crore, advancing healthcare affordability alongside PLI projects.
This initiative reflects the government’s mission to reduce healthcare costs for citizens and increase self-reliance through PLI projects in medical device and drug manufacturing.
