SFDA Shuts 3 Medical Warehouses for Violations in Jeddah

RIYADH (AP) — The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has shut down three warehouses of medical supplies and tools in Jeddah for a number of violations.

After detecting flaws in these warehouses, the SFDA took disciplinary steps. The infractions included stockpiling 5,500 medicinal items without a license and failing to meet storage requirements.

According to the SFDA, its inspectors found 300 expired items and 3,500 medical products stored in improper circumstances in the two warehouses. These warehouses were also discovered to be in violation of manufacturing medical products and modifying medical products without a license.

Other violations included failing to disclose information about storage facilities and branch warehouses. The SFDA seized the medical products and equipment involved in the violation before shutting the warehouses. The administration also summoned persons in charge of the warehouses in order to take legal action against them.

During the inspection tours, SFDA officers discovered violations in the warehouse of a medical showroom. It was discovered that the warehouse stored 1,700 medical equipment without a license and in unsanitary circumstances, in violation of the storage activity. As a result, the warehouse was shut down.

The authorities asked medical instrument warehouses to comply with the terms and conditions and seek a license to ensure the application of the relevant standards. It also advised people to report any violations committed by companies by dialing the unified number (19999) or contacting the Tameni application.
